OVERRIDING RATES AND RULES
These two items get updated SLIGHTLY differently and the difference is VERY IMPORTANT. Here is a quick review on how to properly update both Rates and Rules.
OVERRIDING RATES
Your RACK RATE is the main rate (base rate) that all your DERIVED RATES are based on. When you alter that rate it automatically effects all your DERIVED RATES. Your DERIVED RATES will be; Expedia, Booking, VRBO, Airbnb, GDS, etc. It can also include any local discounts like AAA, Military, or Repeat Guest rates. So when you override your RACK RATE it will automatically update all those DERIVED off of it.
ONE BY ONE – DAY BY DAY
BULK UPDATE
This is the one where the confusion happens…..
Here is an example of HOW it can go wrong if you select All Active Rates instead of just the RACK RATE. In this example we have our RACK RATE of $100 and we have a DERIVED RATE for Expedia at 15% higher than our RACK RATE. We will do one OVERRIDE of $10 and then a second OVERRIDE of $10 and see the different results. You will see how it affects the DERIVED RATE at a loss of $16.50 and $18.00 respectively.
OVERRIDING RULES
Overriding RULES works differently from overriding RATES. IF you use the same method as overriding the rates you will ONLY make changes to the RACK RATE.
ONE BY ONE – DAY BY DAY
When updating RULES from the RATES GRID you MUST update EACH of the DERIVED RATES
BULK UPDATE
Selecting All Active Rate Plans will send the RULE OVERRIDES out to all the DERIVED RATES -
